Good News For Anyone Doing Business In Jersey

土曜日, 9 月 27th, 2008

European data protection law prohibits the transfer of personal data outside of the EEA (the EEA comprises the EU member states plus Norway, Lichtenstein and Iceland). Transfers to third countries (those outside the EEA) need further action to be taken to legitimise the transfer. The most simple route to legalise transfers is where the third country has obtained approval from the EU for its internal data protection framework, that is had a finding of “adequacy” in respect of its own internal data protection regime.

In October 2007 the EC approved Jersey and the Faroe Islands as offering an adequate level of protection for personal data lifting the restrictions for all transfers to those territories from within the EU.

To date Argentina, Canada, Guernsey, Isle of Man and Switzerland have been approved. To this list we can now add Jersey and the Faroe Islands.

The prohibition on the transfer of personal information to third countries continues to cause problems for organisations that do business overseas for example outsourcing personal data processing to India and the Far East, business dealings with Australia and New Zealand.

The advisory committee to the EC on data protection matters included consideration of the adequacy of data protection laws in Australia and New Zealand respectively during 2007. No decision regarding those countries has been published. As yet India has not made the work plan, perhaps that will happen in the 2008 work schedule. In the meantime businesses must either adopt the standard contract terms approved by the EC and available on its website at http://ec.europa.eu/justice_home/fsj/privacy/modelcontracts/index_en.htm or must meet one or more conditions from the Fourth Schedule to the UK’s Data Protection Act 1998.

Dermalogica Skin Care Products - Personalized Skin Care Designed To Meet Your Specific Needs

土曜日, 9 月 27th, 2008

The makers of the Dermalogica skin care products operate under one basic principle. That every individual is different, with their own specific needs, and skin care that might have great results for one person might not work as well for someone else.

It makes sense when you think about it. Just as different individuals have different likes and dislikes, we all have different skin types and skin care needs. A regimen that might work wonders for one person might have little effect for another person. In fact, it could make whatever skincare issues they have even worse.

Dermalogica’s personalized approach is designed to help everyone who uses their products achieve the same great results, no matter their skin type.

What Is Dermalogica?

Dermalogica was developed by The International Dermal Institute, the postgraduate training facility for skin care professionals. These lines of products are known around the world as “the professionals’ choice.” And with good reason. Many dermatologists and professionals recommend these products to their patients and clients.

These products were designed to meet the many different needs of individual users. Whether your skin is normal, dry, oily or sensitive, there is a Dermalogica skin care line that is bound to be right for you.

The Products

Dermalogica products are non-comedogenic, and made from the finest ingredients, steering clear of those that have been linked to causing or worsening several skin problems. They don’t contain occlusive mineral oils or lanolin. They are free of the synthetic fragrances and artificial coloring that some find irritating to their skin. And they don’t contain S.D. alcohol, which some have found tends to dry out their skin.

Environment Friendly

Along with choosing ingredients that will be gentle and non-irritating to go inside their products, the makers of Dermalogica are conscientious in many other ways.

For one, you can rest assured that no animal testing was used in the development of these products. All of the ingredients used in the products come from eco-safe sources. And everything is packaged in recyclable containers.

Who Would Benefit from Dermalogica?

Who would benefit from Dermalogica skin care products?

  • Anyone who wants great looking skin.
  • Anyone who is looking for a line of products specifically designed for their skin type.
  • Anyone searching for non-comedogenic products that don’t contain artificial colors or fragrances, or potentially harmful ingredients.
  • Anyone who cares more about getting good skin care than about hype or fancy packaging.

If any of the above applies to you, Dermalogica skin care products might be just what you are looking for.

Chinese Baby Names

水曜日, 9 月 24th, 2008

Chinese baby names are among some of the most poetic, beautiful names in the world, but they are often confusing to westerners. To begin with, in China, the surname (or family name) comes first, followed by the given, or personal name. So, if John Smith happens to be Chinese, he would refer to himself as Smith John. Furthermore, in China, unlike in the west, there are relatively few surnames, but a huge diversity of given names.

Chinese baby names come from the many thousands of Chinese characters, or graphic word symbols, in existence, so the variety of names is

enormous. Usually, a Chinese given name will consist of two characters, denoting elements, or ideas, such as ‘golden sea’ for a baby boy, or ‘little iris’ for a baby girl. For boys, the characters usually reflect traditional male qualities like strength and endurance, whereas for baby girls, the Chinese name will often be linked to beauty, flowers, refinement, or nature.

In Chinese culture the influence of family is extremely strong. This extends to Chinese baby names. Often, one of the two characters of the given name is shared by all members of a generation within a family. This generational system makes more sense when you realize that it is considered offensive, in China, to name a baby after an older relative. (It is also considered poor taste to name a baby after a well-known public figure or celebrity).

When Chinese babies are born, the parents have a month to register them with the state. In the interim, parents often give the baby a nickname, such as ‘bright star,’ or ‘tiny jewel.’ The nickname, or as it is sometimes called, the ‘milk name,’ may remain with the baby long after childhood!

If you are looking for a two-character Chinese name, be careful not to make the mistake of thinking any character combination will do. While it is true that there are thousands of characters to choose from, not all combinations are appropriate, and some may be very inappropriate! An excellent article by Xiaoning Wang about choosing a Chinese baby name, will give you more guidance on this issue. You can also find useful information in the article on Chinese given names at Wikipedia.org.

With so many names to choose from, it is difficult to create a brief list of Chinese names that does justice to this ancient heritage. The list suggested below, ten for boys and ten for girls, will hopefully at least give you a sense of the variety and beauty of Chinese names. Since the Chinese characters cannot be reproduced in an article such as this, the names have been ‘anglicized’ in the accepted manner. The translation into modern English should not be taken as the only possible definition, since many Chinese characters have several meanings, and there may also be linguistic nuances beyond the scope of this brief survey. Hopefully, these names and definitions will give you a glimpse of the beautiful Chinese language and the role it serves in the creation of Chinese baby names. Following each name, in parentheses, is the meaning of the name.

Whether you are looking for a traditionial name for a child born in China, or you are honoring your’s or your partner’s Chinese heritage, or whether you are simply browsing for enjoyment, hopefully these names will help you in your search.

Ten examples of Chinese boys’ names include Yaochuan (honoring the river); Honghui (great splendor); Bai (white); Chao (surpassing); Jianyu (building the universe); Qingsheng (celebrating birth); Jinhai (golden sea); Shan (mountain); Longwei (dragon greatness), and Zhengzhong (upright and loyal).

Chinese girls’ names include Wencheng (refined accomplishment); Yanlin (swallow forest); Chunhua (spring flower); Cuifen (emerald fragrance); Nuying (female flower); Meilin (plum jade); Qingzhao (clear understanding); Xiaozhi (little iris); Mingyu (bright jade), and Zhenzhen (precious).

Neil Street writes frequently about baby names. He is co-publisher of a leading baby names site, Baby Names Garden.

Baby Bedding is Perfect For Quilts

日曜日, 9 月 21st, 2008

When choosing baby bedding, most people do not think of quilts, but they are actually perfect for an infant’s room. Not only are quilts warm, but they make wonderful design additions to the decor of the room. They give it an old fashioned look that seems to draw you in. Handmade quilts are simple, yet attractive to look at and wonderful to wrap up in. Making a quilt is not difficult; anyone can do it.

The internet provides a wealth of quilting knowledge and designs, from which to learn. Quilting books also offer many good designs, as do the kits that are available for those who need a little 20 Nose Pins Studs Bones Ring Sterling Silver Swarovski with the sewing pattern layout. Finding the right quilt design for your baby’s bedding is not hard and can probably be found online for free. If this is your first quilt, then you start with a simple sketch.

Most patterns come with easy to follow instructions and they also include tips that can be helpful for beginning quilters, or anyone who just does it for a hobby. If you really feel adventurous, then you can make up your own design template. Just make sure that your ambition is equal to your quilting skills. For those who do not wish to quilt by hand, then there are many different machines made especially for quilting, and are available in sewing stores and online.

Quilting with a machine makes the process go much quicker than if the stitching is done by hand, but there is often a loss in monetary value. Frames are also available to help stretch the fabric and keep it aligned during the quilting process. Many tools are available to the Semi Precious Labradorite Swarovski Crystals who is serious about learning this craft.

Baby bedding will often have a theme that includes animals, appliques or blocks. Other quilt patterns may have a country design and be made of plaid materials. Choosing a theme for your quilt and the right quilting fabrics for that theme can sometimes be the most difficult part of the quilting process.

It is important to know the intended use for your quilt, the colors of the room in which it will be placed, and the theme of that particular room. The most intricate, beautifully designed quilts can sometimes conflict with the decor of a room and thus, lose its appeal.

Quilting is a wonderful hobby for those who have the time to learn the techniques. It seems to have a calming effect and can help to relieve stress. A baby bedding project is a good thing for expectant mothers to take up during their pregnancy. If you have never quilted before, then it is important to remember to start with a relatively easy design until you are sure that you like quilting.

Make Your Own Attractive Dollhouse Shingles

日曜日, 9 月 21st, 2008

Grab that piece Lot Of 40 4mm Turquoise Swarovski Beads old Cedar and make your own dollhouse shingles. Follow these quick and easy steps:

First, begin with a 1 and ½ inch wide, ½ inch thick piece of cedar that is at least a foot long for ease of handling.

Second, using your band saw, every ¾ of an inch, make a one inch deep cut into the 1&1/2 inch width along the foot long side. Your piece will resemble a long thick comb.

Next. at the top outside edge of each 1 inch cut, rout a V groove using a V groove bit to get an angled effect for each shingle. Picture a beveled edge on each tooth of the comb.

Finally, using your band saw again, rip 1/8 inch strips along the full foot length for a thin comb effect. A single point fence will help you maintain the 1/8th inch thickness. A course tooth saw blade will help to gain that rough sawn look.

And now, your shingles are ready to go. Just cut them to the required lengths, layer them to get your desired look and hot glue them in place.

To add character and a more weathered appearance to your house, apply a paint wash by watering down shades of brown or gray acrylic paint and broad brushing it on the shingles. Add more detail by painting veins on some of the shingles with a very fine brush and applying another wash. This layering of washes provides depth. For more contrast, spray an adhesive on several spots and throw on some fake green moss for an aging effect.

Moving To A New Place Can Be Stressful

土曜日, 9 月 20th, 2008

There is no doubt that moving to a new place can be stressful. There was a period in my own life that I moved to a location within the same city every year for a couple of years in a row. Even a short move like this can be stressful.

But, what about moving your whole family across country such as for a job? You may be moving to a foreign place where you don’t have any family or friends and you just have to start your life all over again. You’ll have to research schools for your kids, houses, neighborhoods, where the shopping is and other things that you’ve taken for granted over time.

One of the stressful parts of moving is sending out a change of address to everyone you know. This could be family and friends, but most likely will involve everyone you owe money to as well. The IRS, mortgage company, utilities and credit card companies all want to know where you are moving to so that they can find you and keep those payments coming.

Some people try to move themselves in order to save money, but others find helpful to get a long distance moving quote to see if they will be saving as much money as they think they are. In many instances there many not be much of a difference whether you do it or you leave it to a professional and in many other cases it may not be feasible to do the move yourself.

If you have lots of heavy furniture to haul over long distances that you’d have to pack, load, then unload and unpack, you may want someone else to do this task. And, for you own piece of mind you may wish that someone else do this task.

Moving into a new place will be stressful enough. All of your routines and your family’s routines will be disrupted for a while until you find your way around and develop new routines. These routines may be simple like where do I go to the grocery store, or where is the nearest hamburger joint.

But, other routines may include schedules to get up in the morning, getting to work and school, when each member is coming home, when the mail comes, when to put out the trash and most likely a dozen other items you haven’t thought of yet.

One of the items that will help take some of the stress out of moving is developing a checklist or several checklists. One checklist can be of tasks that need to be accomplished up to the moving date. One the date of the move you may have another checklist. And, then a third checklist, will be of items that need to be accomplished right away once you’ve moved into your new home.

No matter how much you prepare however, there will always be unforeseen events that happen when doing a move. For your own stress level, just be sure to prepare as much as possible upfront, then be willing to let go and go with the flow when some events don’t go as planned. The more that you can plan, yet be flexible in your plans, the happier you’ll be.

Your Baby’s Crying - What To Do

土曜日, 9 月 20th, 2008

A baby only has one way of communicating - crying. Everything is incredibly new to them, every feeling, every experience. Sometimes, for a new parent, it can be very difficult to work out exactly what your baby is crying about. However there are some basics that you can check if your baby cries. It may be one or a number of them are making the baby cry.

The best place to start is the diaper. If it’s wet or soiled, then the baby will be uncomfortable and start crying. If the diaper needs changing, then change it. More often than not, that will solve the problem. Some babies don’t like having their diaper changed, and will often cry even more. Mostly it’s because they don’t like the sensation of being uncovered. So change the diaper as quickly and smoothly as you can, to minimize distress. Then cover the baby with a blanket or clothing, so that the baby feels comfortable again.

Babies also like being warm. However it’s also possible to overdress a baby, so be sensible about it. When checking the baby, look for very red skin, and see if the baby is sweating. Either of these signs suggest the baby is almost certainly too hot. A good rule of thumb with dressing your baby is one layer more than you’re wearing. If the baby is too hot or cold, then adjust clothing or covers to suit the temperature.

Next, is your baby hungry? Is it a while since the last feed? Did the baby maybe feed a little less than normal at the last feed, and so perhaps is hungry quicker this time around? Try nursing or offering a bottle. Babies do need to eat frequently, because they are growing so quickly. Often the action of sucking helps to soothe the baby, even if they’re not very hungry. Babies are very good at knowing when they’ve had enough, and will stop. So don’t worry too much about overfeeding. The baby will stop crying once he’s not hungry any more.

After feeding, many babies develop gas. The baby’s digestive system is only just developing, and eating is a very new experience. Sometimes crying means the baby has some gas rumbling around in the tummy, and needs to be burped. Put a cloth on your shoulder, and hold the baby against your shoulder so that his stomach is against the front of your shoulder. Make sure the head is well forward, or support the head if you can. Rub his back firmly, in a circular motion. This helps to put pressure on the digestive system both front and back, and often produces the required burping. Some gentle patting may also help, but be very careful if you decide to do this - babies are very delicate.

You may even find that just going for a walk with the baby on your shoulder helps. Babies seem to like movement, probably because they’re used to being bounced around in the womb. But also, being held close to a parent is very soothing for a baby. Babies love to be held and cuddled - despite some suggestions to the contrary, you can’t hold your baby too much.

Some babies also find it very soothing to be swaddled in a small blanket. Swaddling involves wrapping the blanket around the baby’s body fairly tightly. The arms are held close to the baby. In some ways this feels a lot like the womb to a baby, because they were tightly enclosed in there too. Sometimes the sudden experience of being able to move around can distress a baby. Your health professional should be able to teach you how to swaddle the baby effectively. It’s important to make sure, though, that the head and neck remain uncovered.

Once you’ve gone through the list above - check the diaper, check the baby’s temperature, try a feed or a burp, and swaddle the baby - and the baby’s still crying, then trying holding the baby close and making a rhythmic “shhhh” sound near the baby’s ear. If it sounds a little bit like a wave on the beach, great. That’s the sort of sound the baby heard in the womb, and is often very reassuring and soothing. Some babies are very sensitive to noise, and an average home produces a lot of noise! You can even try a radio tuned off station, so all you can hear is “white noise”.

Over time, you’ll find that you begin to recognise the difference between your baby’s cries, and so probably won’t need to go right through the checklist every time baby cries. However if at any time you suspect your baby may be sick or in pain, or if he’s still crying even after checking all of the above things, it’s always best to visit your health care professional, just to make sure everything is okay.

10 Rules to Follow When Choosing Your First Crochet Pattern

金曜日, 9 月 19th, 2008

Learning how to crochet takes a lot of patience and practice and can be frustrating at first. Many people give up simply because they didn’t know where to start. Either they start off with the wrong kind of pattern, yarn, or hook size, not realizing the importance of choosing the right supplies.

It’s very important that everyone starts off with the right crochet patterns and supplies; otherwise they’ll just give up. But with the right help and tools anyone can master crocheting. This includes boys and girls, and men and women. Yes men can crochet too!

Here are 10 rules which you should follow when deciding on your first crochet pattern. I recommend you follow them as they will save you a lot of frustration.

1. Use a 5.00mm hook size or larger. Using a smaller hook will make it harder for the yarn to remain on the hook while being pulled through the loops. This will only result in frustration.

2. Avoid patterns which require yarn that’s more difficult to work with like, boucle, and eyelash. Just stick with a yarn that’s plain and easy to work with.

3. Stick with beginner patterns. Even though they might be projects that you’re not all that interested in; you’ll be thankful later if you stick with something simple.

4. Start with small projects and work your way up.

5. Always use a pattern and follow all instructions.

6. Use the yarn and hook size indicated by the pattern.

7. If the pattern provides you with a gauge, use it. It might seem like a waste of time as you’re doing it, but you’ll be thankful in the end.

8. Take your time and work slow to keep the stitches loose. This will help to keep the tension consistent throughout the project.

9. Crochet at least once a day.

10. Be patient. Always finish one project before moving on to the next. (This is the hardest rule to follow, but it’s good practice till you get the hang of it.)

Now you’re ready to go out and get supplies for your first crochet project. Your local craft or yarn store should have everything you need to get started. If not, you can always Click Here to view some of my favorites at Amazon.

Remember your first couple of projects don’t have to perfect. Your tension will not be the same from row to row, and this will cause your project to look lopsided. This is normal for anyone starting out, so don’t worry about it and keep practicing.

Practice makes perfect.
